Dr. Benjamin “Ben” Kopp’s initial interest in orthopaedics and joint replacement began as an undergraduate studying implant design in biomedical engineering. He became more interested in the practical application of these principles over time and wanted more interaction with patients. Orthopaedic surgery allows him to continue to apply engineering principles to surgery to help restore patients’ function and mobility.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) degree in biomedical engineering and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) as well as a Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Iowa. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at University of Texas in Austin, where he was named a Residency Graduate with Distinction, and fellowship in adult reconstruction at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Read MoreDr. Kopp specializes in adult reconstruction/joint replacement and general orthopaedics and performs direct anterior total hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, revision total hip replacement, revision total knee replacement, robotic-assisted joint replacement and orthopaedic injury/fracture care.
He has served as an orthopaedic/medical mission trip volunteer in Ecuador, Guatemala and Tanzania. He gets great satisfaction from talking to patients at post-operative appointments and hearing how they have been able to get back to whatever activities they were limited with before, whether that be walking the golf course, playing with grandkids or any other activity that brings them joy. He finds it incredibly rewarding to see the combined efforts of the clinic and operating room staff, therapists and the patient make significant improvements in a patient’s quality of life.
Dr. Kopp resides in Knoxville with his wife, Susan, and golden retriever, Sadie. Outside of work, he enjoys golf, running, mountain biking, yoga and live music.
