What to Expect
Day of Surgery
Important rules keep you safe and help avoid delays on surgery day. Review and follow the checklist and contact us at 865-963-4120 if you have any questions.
Checklist
- Do not eat, drink, chew gum or use tobacco after midnight before your surgery unless specifically directed by the nurse or anesthesiologist.
- Check with your surgeon to see if you should take any prescribed medications for heart, blood pressure or lungs before surgery.
- Arrive on time.
- Call UOSC at 865-963-4120 if you have cold, flu or other symptoms of illness on surgery day.
- Shower or bathe before surgery.
- Do not wear contacts, makeup or nail polish (acrylic nails or overlays). Remove and secure all jewelry and piercings.
- Remove dentures before surgery.
- Have a responsible adult present to drive you home who must remain onsite for the duration of your stay.
- Bring any post-operation equipment previously discussed and requested by your surgeon, such as crutches that you already own.
